3-star hotel in La Fortuna with Arenal Volcano views and a riverside frog garden

Amenities & Grounds

Hotel Monte Real sits on a riverbank with its own forested trail and a frog garden where guests can spot poison dart frogs and tree frogs. The outdoor swimming pool is open year-round, and the property offers free on-site parking as well as a complimentary airport shuttle. A sun terrace and accessible parking are also available, while the tour desk arranges excursions like canopy tours and horseback riding to La Fortuna Waterfall.

Rooms

The hotel offers spacious room options, including Premium Double Rooms and King Rooms, many with private balconies overlooking the Arenal Volcano. Each room has air conditioning, a flat-screen TV, and a private bathroom with free toiletries; select rooms also include a sofa. Guests consistently report seeing sloths and toucans directly from their balconies or the riverside trail.

A complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast is included for all guests, served in the hotel's on-site restaurant beside the river. The restaurant also serves dinner with a menu of Mediterranean and local cuisine, including options like Casado and vegetarian dishes. Breakfast offers a choice of six hot meals plus a plate of fresh fruit, all made to order.

Location & Wildlife

Monte Real Hotel is located 700 ft from La Fortuna town center, a five-minute walk to restaurants, shops, and the bus station. The property borders a river that attracts river otters, kingfishers, and a resident sloth; guests frequently report seeing more wildlife on the hotel grounds than on organized tours.
